No film makes glass unbreakable, and anyone who says otherwise is overselling it. What security film changes is time. Glass without film shatters and falls out in one or two hits. Glass with security film cracks but stays bonded together in the frame, so getting through it takes repeated blows. That delay, and the noise that comes with it, is what makes the difference.
We clean the glass and apply a thick, clear film to the inside surface. On doors and large panes, we anchor the film to the frame with an attachment system, so the glass can't be pushed in as a single sheet. There's no glass to replace and no construction.
Entrances, vestibules and the glass beside doors are the first line between the outside and the classroom. Security film slows someone trying to get through, which gives staff more time to lock down and call for help. It's one part of a school's safety plan, alongside locked entries, cameras and trained staff, and it can be installed over summer or winter break.
Retail storefronts, offices and clinics with large ground-floor glass are easy targets for smash-and-grab theft. Security film keeps the glass together after an impact, so clearing an opening becomes slow and loud. It also keeps broken glass from spraying across the floor when a window is hit by a vandal, hail or storm debris. Clear film is virtually invisible, so the building looks the same.
Security film is quoted on site, because the price depends on the film thickness and which openings need an attachment system. It costs far less than replacing glass with security glazing.
